How many dvd's 4 system image

If you create a system image, how many dvd's does it take aproximately with an average amount of informaton on your pc. This would be 4 a 160gb hard drive. I don't have an external hard drive so thats not an option. I am just looking 4 an estimate.

Impossible to tell really, Depends how much junk etc you have on your system, I have a 160 GB hdd and have about 10 music albums,321mb worth of programmes and windows fully updated and so far my system image uses 2 DVDS at 4.7GB (each)

Hello Imabuvu, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It depends on how much space you are actually using on your hard drive for storage. The average single layer DVD can hold about 4.7GB of data, so divide how much hard drive space is being used by 4.7, and that will give you a rough estimate of how many single layer DVDs you will need.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Depending on what imaging program you use, there are different compressions. I use Macrium and the resulting images are about 55% of the original data in the imaged partition (with standard compression). So if you have e.g. 50GB of data in your partition, that will result in a 27.5Gb image which will require 6 DVDs.
But DVDs are really a very poor medium to make images - especially with the imaging facility of Win7. I have seen cases where the CD reader is not being released by the recovery CD which means that it is impossible to read the image back in. Macrium does not have that problem. I would strongly recommend to invest the $50 to $70 for a decent external disk.

A system image will be the size of the space used in the partition windows is installed on plus any other files you choose to back up.. figure 4.7 GB/DVD.
