If you use Windows7 imaging, you better stay in close contact with Karlsnooks who is an expert in it. For my taste it is far too complicated. Just mounting a .vhd is an ordeal. I use free Macrium and that is dead simple. And yes, you can use your files from the image at any time.

That's if you like to jump thru 10 hoops instead of one. I am sorry Karl, but that is not what I call "ease of use".

Agreed. I had to run this when I started using my external HD from my laptop to my PC and it was good that I did. You can never be too careful, especially when backing up multiple computers on one device.

I think the built-in Windows "system image" tool does a basic job for somebody without another application. I find that either Macrium Reflect free or EaseUsToDo Backup (free) do a better job with imaging, recoverying and restoring specific files from the backup. They get my recommendation.

I run a backup to an external drive. This is managed by one of the services provided by Norton with its antivirus program and runs all the time. My question is whether this obviates the need for a system image disk. Is this correct? On the other hand I think it might be a good idea to have the...
