Yeah do the winsat mem test steve , see what it hits.
I tend to get a new cpu and mobo and spend hours and hours researching overclocking them and pretty much get to know them inside out.
For some reason as soon as I move on to the next I totally forget how I did the old ones.
The new ones like mine are all multiplier based too easy really but hey ho.
yeah mine has unlocked multiplier but every time i think about it,i see visions of doom.
When in doubt, don't do it!
It's a careful balance of speeds and voltages without too much heat and requires constant monitoring and a decent cpu cooler.
it was something i thought about getting into so i bought the cpu with unlocked multiplier and this blackops motherboard which supposedly built for overclockers, when it arrived the manual said it could be aircooled, watercooled, dry ice or liquid nitrogen.....scared the life outta me and never bothered.
After doing a quick search on google it appears your cpu should be able to hit 3.2ghz on stock voltage although each cpu varies a little.
It can go higher with a voltage increase but of course the more volts the more heat.
I wouldn't look at the unlocked multiplier too much on yours, the way to increase the speed is by upping the FSB.
Your best bet is to spend a bit of time on google searching for overclocking tips and reading up on the whole process of overclocking so you fully understand it before attempting anything.
Also be sure to download coretemp for monitoring your temps and cpuz.
Thanks for that,
i'll google it and invest in a crash helmet and give it a go.
Maybe this thread should be moved to the overclocking section?
The software is excellent for benchmarking any increases in performance made by either upgrading components or overclocking existing components.
I am surprised more people have not tried it.
Cheers
Paul.
changed my memoery from blue slots to white slots and gained 600 points.
