I hope you don't mind me questioning this, but seeing as you are a new member I have to.
Also please don't think this is because it will knock me off the top of the leaderboard, honestly I really don't care about that. If someone posts an amazing score then I am pleased for them and usually try to beat them.
I am finding it real hard to believe a 290X at 1200/1500 could beat a GTX 780 running 1333/1737 by so much.
As you know, I owned an R9 290X and I did extensive testing with that and a GTX 780, the 780 beat it in every benchmark bar 3D Mark and 3D Mark 11.
Could you please run the test again and also include a GPUz screenshot and your score and username on a sticky note on a full desktop shot.
Please don't take offense to this, but for 2 reasons I have to ask, 1 because as I said you are a new member and 2 because your score is so much higher than your previous one.
Cheers
Paul.
The fact can be that it has had some mistake I bring into line that 290x not podesia to have done so many points.
I am going to do more tests, to see what it happened later put the results.
Paul you have to take into Consideration they have a WQHL driver now and it works well maybe AMD booster performance through the driver
I am doing pretty Amazing scores too even though i have Dinosaurs
Yeah Solar mate, I know drivers can make a good improvement , but seriously nearly 2500 points for a single card? I overclocked the shit out of my 780 and he is beating me by 15%. Something don't add up. I don't normally question scores and if it had been say 2200 then I would not have but 2500 is mental.
His card after he flashed to the 290X was 1800 odd, which was only a day or so before and then an overclock bags him a 36% increase, heck how many cards do you know that will overclock to 36% faster?
I know it looks bad cos I am top of the single card leaderboard and maybe I might be bitter for someone to beat me, but that ain't my bag, if someone beats me legitimately I like it and am happy for them, but he is a new member and I can't take his word for such a crazy high score.
To give an indication of how high it is, I would probably need to OC my card to something like 1500MHz to beat it, that ain't right. Looking at 3D Marks scores a 290X at 1200MHz scores the same as mine at 1333MHz so to beat me by 15% in this just ain't right.
He ain't been back yet with another run and the info I asked for so we will see. I trust all you main members as I know you and you would always want things to be right, but with a new member I have to be cautious.
I hope all of that don't sound too harsh but I run the leaderboards and maybe I am too lenient as it is regarding validations on scores but normally on here I know most folks.
Well, Paul, FWIW I think you are doing a fine job and I don't blame you one bit for questioning him. I questioned it when I first saw it. I thought it was very unusual. But, we all know some of these tests will give a rogue score occasionally, and it may have been a case of that. But, whatever it was it was just too high and too big a jump to make sense of.
Thanks Steve, I honestly don't mind him getting that high a score if it is genuine, but he also said the GPU hit 110C, now me and you both know that once a GPU hits a certain temp then thermal throttling will come into play, there are different levels, I don't know where they are on the 290X but there should be a few, maybe 1 at 70, 1 at 80, 1 at 90 and so on, but what I am saying is the core speed would have been reduced massively during the test if it hit 110C by the end and as a result the score would have been affected badly.
My run at 1333MHz well the CPU did not get above 70C and there was no throttling. I just find it very hard to believe a 2500 point score.
If he can prove me wrong then I will be the first to apologize but it seems far too high for me. I expect a 1200MHz 290X to score between 2000-2200 without any throttling, with throttling well, tops 2000, 2500 is just mental.
Paul.
New score, only 20 points higher but it took a lot of work, CPU at 4.9GHz, GPU at 1333/1902.
