1. Uninstall both McAfee and StopZilla ... You don't need Stopzilla with Malwarebytes' antimalware installed on your computer
Use this uninstall tool for McAfee Download McAfee Consumer Product Removal Tool 3.5.109.1 Free - Will remove all 2005, 2006, and 2007 versions of McAfee consumer products - Softpedia

2. Install Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
*** Be sure to turn on Windows Firewall if you were using McAfee's. (since we uninstalled that application)

3. Now, let's restore your Hosts file and flush the DNS cache:

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.
@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the .bat file and run as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself.

4. Everything that Secunia says to update, do so!

Let us know if you're browsing a little faster now, please

Usually issues like this are DNS-related, especially if it affects all browsers. Given that the only thing they would all have in common is winsock and DNS, it would be worth it to try running netsh winsock reset and then rebooting to see if that clears it up, although it *will* break any applications that had LSPs loaded in the winsock stack (like Google Desktop, for example). If a winsock reset doesn't fix it, consider looking into removing any 3rd party firewall applications, antivirus / antispyware applications, and any other applications that would be monitoring network traffic above and beyond what Windows itself does.

I'd suggest all of the above (at the least) before just reinstalling Windows, but ultimately it's your system - if you've already got reasons to upgrade, now might be a good excuse .

I did a clean install and I see a similar issue. I suspect ISP more than anything.
Well, if there is a 'browser hijack', it would be a bit extreme to do a clean install.
But nothing else seems to be helping.

Something is still wrong with your 'format' and 'clean install' Internet Badass.
Your ISP may have 'capped' your download speed.

I'm on DSL/Broadband with my ISP and they said I "might" be able to get 256mbs.
I live in the boonies, 3 miles from town, but this is the best I can get... upload, 212 Kbits/sec ... download, 217 Kbits/sec

Problems with Internet browser
Right now I'm using IE8b2 and although this is very buggy with rendering glitches and crashes I don't think it's the browser itself. The problem I'm having is when opening office (powerpoint, word, excel) documents or pdf files from the browser. When I open them the tab is frozen and I can't do...
