    How to block a Website in Windows 7


    Hi,

    Can you please let me know how to block a website in Windows 7. I tried this "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts" & add the website which i want to block at the end,it is working with XP but not working with 7.

    Please guide me for the same.

    1) You can do it through Parental controls coupled with Windows family safety.

    2) Another way would be to use OpenDNS > Use OpenDNS and set up a free account. Then use the settings from Block list - 25... for the OpenDNS settings. With the Basic plan (Free), you can block sites by category and by domain. With your account, besides category blocking, you can block up to 25 domains.

    I use the hosts file extensively just as I did in Win98 (after getting the file to be editable). It works exactly the same. You can only block the full name of the site (all the stuff between "http://" and the ".com" or ".net" etc.). For example, to block doubleclick there are hundreds of lines like this:

    127.0.0.1 ad.doubleclick.net #[MVPS.Criteria]
    127.0.0.1 ad-g.doubleclick.net
    127.0.0.1 ad2.doubleclick.net
    127.0.0.1 ad.3ad.doubleclick.net
    127.0.0.1 ad.3au.doubleclick.net
