IE 8 for Windows 7

Hello Folks:

It's been a long time since I visited. My tale of woe began when I reinstalled my O/S which is something I do every six months when I get glitches in the system. When I was installing updates I guess I didn't check closely enough and IE 9 got through. I hate this thing and its constant nags at the bottom of the screen. I have searched high and low for a 64 bit version of IE 8 for Windows 7, even to the point of downloading a few from a bit torrent site, but all I get are versions for XP. Does anyone have a link that will provide me with a copy of IE 8 for Windows 7? If so, it will be miuch appreciated.

If you go into Control Panel, then choose Programs and Features, then on the top left choose View installed updates, you should be able to find the IE9 update and uninstall it. That should roll your browser back to IE 8, at least it did for me a few months ago. I always recommend creating a system image before making any changes to my computer, That way if things go wrong, it is a simple matter of restoring them to the way they were and trying something else.

I haven't upgraded from IE8 yet. Are you referring to the "status bar"? Can you describe the "constant nags"?

Sorry I took so long to reply Ron, but I had to reinstall IE9 and run it for a couple of days so I could give you a reasonable answer.
The problem I have with this app is not so much the nags per se but the fact that you can't shut them off. For instance, every time I log on to a newspaper comment site I get a screen informing me that some of the content is insecure (advertisements) and do I wish to allow it access to my computer. This would not be a problem if I could permanently allow the access. I get the same thing from my AV app but I have the option of allowing access permenently. Once I click on this acceptance check box, I never get the same request at that site. With IE9 I get the same thing every time I access the site. After clicking to allow access, I get another message asking if I wish to speed up browsing by disabling add-ons. Since these add-ons are all security related I don't want them shut down. However I get the same message every time I go to certain sites.
These things are all meant to be security options for people who don't run AV software. Since I have security software out the wahzoo I don't need IE9 bugging me every time I visit certain sites...that's what my purchased AV software is for. IE9 also asks if you want their add ons. If you say no, you will get this message every time you go on line.
The IE9 application works the same as IE8 except for these irritants and, if I could shut them down permanently I would have no problem running it. With my AV software I have the option of allowing all site content through on a one time only basis or forever. IE9 doesn't give me this option.
I would suggest you go ahead and give it a try, it doesn't do any damage. If you find it irritating you can always run System Restore to go back to IE8.

I was under the impression that Tools/Internet Options/Security is still available, and so you should be able to adjust individual options or just lower the security level. BTW, I've heard that IE10 is much better and that it will be available to Windows 7 and 8 users when 8 comes out later this year.
