sometimes these are just temporary problems with hotmail/live.

try again in a minute, and they normally work fine.

I have the same issue. It is not going away. Neither Live Mail nor Live Messenger will connect now. Messenger says there are key ports that aren't open. Apparently the 2010 version didn't use the same ports. I can't just open these ports on the company firewall. Any suggestions?

Hi ecipher

The ports are determined by your isp, try installing outlook connector and it will sync your hotmail account with your live mail account

if you'll refer to my post, the issue isn't at home with my isp, it is with trying to connect through my company's firewall. All of the issues I've seen online the last couple of days indicate the connection issue doesn't happen through a home connection through an isp, but only happens when trying to connect through a corporate proxy server and firewall. what the situation tells me is that Microsoft changed the ports that Live Essentials 2011 uses to communicate. Can we change these ports back to the ones used in the 2010 version?

of course, outlook connector is always an option, and I may have to do that if this isn't resolved.

I'm still using the version previous to Windows Live Essentials 2011. Based on the posts I've seen here and on the new WindowsLiveMail newsgroup (some from those "switching back") I'm afraid to try it. As Mossberg might say "it's not fully baked". Maybe that's why they named it "2011".
