There's sources all over the place that include that fix, a couple that I posted here yesterday for example. I can't seem to find an answer to my specific question in them though.

OK I did some tests with the options. I used a hardware acceleration test site, and with no acceleration at all, I get 13 FPS max. With full HA I get between 73 and 83 FPS, and with HA on, but using the trick to fix fonts, I get between 17 and 23 FPS. My conclusion is for now I can live with using the trick because my daily browsing does not need full on HA. Here is the site if you want to test it yourself: Hardware Acceleration Stress Test.

I guess that font hardware acceleration was a pretty significant part of it... also, with this fix, I've found pages not to scroll as smooth and some other things.

What Combo of Monitor Size/DPI/Resolution for Best Font Rendering?
What combination of display size/DPI/resolution should I be looking at in a monitor for best font rendering? Should I go high DPI on, say, a small 19-20 inch screen, or go for a wide display? I'd think, with a given DPI and resolution, rendering would be better on a smaller screen than on a...

Weird Font Rendering and another Silly Question
I can't possibly be the only one to have noticed this, but I haven't found any other threads that discuss it. The way fonts are rendered in IE9 is just plain weird. It makes some things too big, and distorts the whole page. I've attached two screenshots. One is IE9, and the second is the...
