IE9
I downloaded and installed the beta IE9 on my netbook where my OS is Windows7 Starter. It's supposed to be faster than Google Chrome--so they say. But I don't think it's any faster than chrome; and as a matter-of-fact, I think it's slower. Maybe it's just my system, but has anyone else had any experience with it and what are your thoughts? Thanks, Frank

Don't forget its a Beta program, wait for the finished product before comparing.

Also, all those "speed" tests are 99% meaningless.
They either are testing one tiny piece of the entire web pie (ususally Java which most people never even run into) OR when they say that IE is 10 times slower than XXX then mean that XXX took 0.05 seconds to load and run a script and IE took 0.5 seconds and unless your sitting there with a stop watch you'll never see that kind of noise, especially when both browsers STILL need to DL the 800k of graphics before you can see anything anyway :P
In other words most of the speed claims, while "true" were nearly all useless in reality, all pure marketing BS, spouted by under market browser makers.
It's nice that IE is at least cleaning up its rendering and script engines enought to "level the playing field" wrt to Acid 3 and script performance. At least it wont be operas whipping boy any more (Though next Operas 100% acid score compared with IEs 95% will be THE END OF THE WORLD), but given that those were dubious tests to begin with, there really is very little to notice

As has been said, IE9 is still in Beta so some of the code is not yet fully optimised. I have my homepage set to about:blank, but it still seems to take a while for that to come up when I fire up IE9. Hopefully, this issue will have been addressed by the time of the full release. Apart from that, I am having no issues with IE9 and it is working as it should.

You also may want to upgrade from Win 7 Starter if your netbook can handle it.

Nothing is really fast on a netbook. Lightweight applications do ok, but the netbook will have a hard time handling other applications.

Has anyone heard when MS is coming out with the final release of IE?
