mp3 automatically streams instead of downloading

When I used to click on an mp3 link it would download it to the download folder. For some strange reason, now when i click on an mp3 link it streams it in windows media player. Any ideas on how i can revert back to being able to save them? (without having to right click>>save as)
    thanks

    Hi,
please tell us which browser you are using, I think I know what the issue is, but just to be sure, we need more info from you.

    im using ie9 beta (win7).
With chrome 7 it opens the mp3 in a new webpage in a very basic player (I'm not sure which). From what i've seen online this is an issue with chrome.
However, I know that mp3 files should download properly on ie9 beta as they did for me 2 days ago!

Copy the below into Notepad, change it to a .reg file, and double click on it. (Keep in mind it will present the "save as" dialog for many file types, not just mp3.)

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions]
    "AlwaysPromptWhenDownload"=dword:00000001

    thanks! works perfectly:)
Could you adjust the regedit so that it auto downloads and saves the file as was default. thanks

I'm still confused as to what i could have done to change the settings and think its a little strange that windows doesnt have an option to easily adjust this.

Do you have any idea how one would apply this fix to chrome7?

I think you could change the 1 to a 0. Or delete the new key.

thanks but that just makes win media player open again.

My mp3 files are on a blog. First I embedded the mp3 in a win media plugin (for streaming) and then included a direct link to download the file.
If the blog is opened on chrome, the streaming works fine but when i try to click on the direct link (save link as) it can take 35+ seconds for the save dialog window to open. (for comparison, on ie 9 it takes about 1 second. )
I found that if i disabled the win media player plugin on chrome, then the download would start straight away! Any idea as to why this would happen and how i can avoid it?
    thanks
