    I suggest you update/reinstall Java, as one other guy recommended: java.com: Java + You

    I haven't noticed the Java cup in the systray when using Facebook. Is seems very few sites use it these days. It's possible that some of the Facebook apps my require it but it shouldn't be necessary for just opening the home page. You'd think that if the "Facebook won't open" problem had a simple solution it would be in Facebook's help section.

    I'm with Jonathan King here and say
    Facebook is the most messed up Piece of Garbage I've seen in a long time.
    I used to manage 3-4 accounts and there was always one you couldn't log on to (sometimes for internal fb upgrades sometimes for no apparent reasons). But I
    I've never seen any use of Java. What they do use heavily tho is JavaScript.
    So after I blocked most of the annoying ads, there was an improvement in reliability. (It seemed that at peak times some of the advertisers timed out for me and thus affected the load of the whole page.

    What you could try to establish, if the reason is the connection or s/th else:
    Open a command line and enter
    Code:
    ping www.facebook.com
    after you pressed ENTER, put in
    Code:
    ping 69.63.189.26
    If there is big difference in response time between those 2, or if only the ping with the IP number works, you have a DNS problem.
    Try that first and report back

    I tried the ping SledgeDG and;
    facebook = 193ms
    ip = 128ms

    Huge difference so what should I do?

    0.1 second difference...not what I would call really huge...I expected the first one not to go through at all.
    Then I would have asked you to flush the DNScache (cmd, right click/run as administrator and put in

    ipconfig /flushdns

    Then I would check C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts for detours concerning facebook (hosts is normally hidden, so make sure, hidden files are shown)
    That's a fav. prank for mischievous brothers, overprotecting parents etc.
    but since they both pings go through it's got to be something else.
    Seeing, how ping IP is slightly faster, let's use that to our advantage:
    Open C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts in notepad

    under the line
    #127.0.0.1 localhost
    enter
    69.63.189.26 facebook.com (NO # at the start !!) save and quit, reboot and try again.

    What it does: the Request to solve the IP for facebook isn't send to your DNS anymore The OS grabs it right from the hosts file.
    But that can't be all...are you sure you don't use any software that blocks fb??
    What have you installed before it stopped working?
    Do you have a restore point before that date by any chance?

    I remember that after installing facemoods (because I was forced to install it for a certain program I wanted) my facebook is screwed up. I uninstalled but no luck at all. Before that I gave my PC to my dad and he was installing drivers and softwares for Samsung Galaxy S. But still I don't know the cause.

    I'm away from facebook for quite a while (amazing how much spare time I have all of a sudden
    So I have no way of knowing what this Facemoods even changes.
    So it might as well be caused by those cellphone drivers.

    I would say just for sh*ts and giggles, let's disable all the autostart programs just to see if it has any effect on fb.
    Click on the orb and enter msconfig in the search dialog.
    In msconfig go to the startup tab and disable everything that isn't antivirus or firewall.
    Leave the other tabs alone.
    Click ok and reboot. If there is no change you can enable those programs again, if you like.
    If fb loads after that we'll have to go through the list to find the culprit.
    a screenshot would be helpful then.
