If it is a windows service, wouldn't it have to be disabled from starting up?

    Hi, lads
Tried Roncerr's suggestions they Didnt work.
im gonna reenable IE and try that will post back.

on another point i download WLU recommended update (last week) and got massive registry leakage and permission problems. Backed upto image approx 6 months old this cleared that problem.

Ahh the problems when you dont use only MS programmes

I understand now what you are talking about. The service I was referring to is installed by those of us who have Windows Live Mail (the desktop application). However you are simply going to the Hotmail website in your browser. I don't "have" Messenger either but it comes along with the Live ID that you need to use Hotmail. When I go to the website it says the same thing in the lower left under the heading "Messenger":

    1) Loading..., followed by
    2)Number of invitations

You are not signed in to Messenger unless you click on the sign in link (Sign in to Messenger).
