Can't send Mail in Windows Live

Established a Win Live account. Can receive mail but can't send. Error message says to check outgoing SMTP authentication (or something like that). I GOOGLED a description of the problem and got back several similar suggestions. I was instructed to open Windows Live and click on Tools/Account/Properties to access the SMTP settings. However, when I open Windows live, there is absolutely no menu containing a "tools" option.

The newest version of WLMail (2011) uses the ribbon toolbar.

In WLMail 2011, click on Mail at the bottom left...
Click on your email account, to highlight it.
Then in the Toolbar (top), click on Accounts - Properties - Servers

    Or..
click on the File icon (top left) - Options - Email Accounts
highlight your email account, click on Properties...

Next who is your isp, most isp's have sucure authentication check box and the port #'s for incoming is 995 and outgoing is 465, but make sure the boxes are checked under the ports

Then the box that comes up click on Servers. Make sure your outgoing server is smtphm.sympatico.ca and that there is a check mark in the very bottom "my server requires authentication." Next click on Advanced and make sure that both lines " this server requires a secure connection " have a check mark. The numbers in your boxes for ports should be incoming 995 and outgoing 25. Click Apply. If your just getting to confused by all this, just go to your ISP and they will have a tutorial or someway to show you how to set it all up. Good Luck :)

I find the so-called "wizards" sometimes make it harder to set up an account. It would be better to get through the wizard as soon as possible and then go to the Properties for each account to set it up properly. Make sure every item on the "Servers" tab is set up according to your email provider's instructions.
