    Browser & Live Mail problems

I have a fairly new Toshiba laptop with an i3 processor running Win 7 64 premium. Now I have no connectivity for Firefox, Chrome or Windows Live Mail (2011). Internet Explorer 8 (64bit) however works fine. This happened once before: after talking to Toshiba support I reinstalled Windows from the partition which cured the problem for a week until it started again. Now they are telling me to take it in for a technician to look at it. I have an older XP desktop on the same router that never misses a beat with Chrome, Firefox Live mail or Explorer. Am I looking at a hardware problem or a Win 7 problem??? This is my second new laptop in a year; I took my original HP back for a refund. I am almost a ready to buy a Mac.
PS the new version of Skype (5.0) very unstable on the Toshiba.

It probably is a setting in IE (auto-detects settings).
