when i open geo.tv website in chrome and click on geo web tv, it opens Geo TV Live - The Web TV and chrome refuses to play the news stream, however when i click on "Try our alternate streaming for Geo Web TV", it plays the stream fine.

It works fine for me, you should install the Windows Media Plugin(also works in Chrome and FF) Download the Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin - Port 25: The Open Source Community at Microsoft
