It's reasonably functional.
Running it side by side with 8, not unless you dual boot with 8 on the other side.
Having the search in the address bar cleans up the interface, although you won't know it's there unless you look.
I noticed a few sites where the images didn't display correctly.
It's a beta, that's to be expected.
With the Flash exploit and Adobe dragging their feet, I opted for the beta flash install for 32 and 64 bit.
Seems stable so far.
Th only way I have managed to get command bar to be on the right is if I have favourites bar ticked.
Did you unlock the toolbars ?
I had no problem with my toolbars
Sadly on my computer, I just don't have a suitable Graphics Card on my main laptop. Instead of using hardware acceleration for rendering it uses software rendering. It is usable, but there are stuttering when scrolling and when viewing some animations. (Depending on CPU load) On my computer: Internet Options > Advance, first item "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering" is checked and grayed out. My resolution is also problematic, 1920x1200 is at the edge of what my GPU can handle let alone the CPU.
The GPU on my main laptop is an ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 (128 MB)
On my netbook, however, it the complete opposite. The integrated Intel Graphics seems to support most of what IE 9 needs to GPU render. It of course doesn't get any good FPS for there complex demos like IE FishTank. I also do like the UI on the netbook (and on the main laptop despite 1200 pixels of vertical space) the minimal vertical space is a real place I only wish it went further and moved the whole line into the tile bar. As for the limited about of tabs it can hold...eh I just open a new Window no big deal.
