Problem with windows live mail 2011

Hi everybody.I recently downloaded windows live 2011 and I have a big issue.When I try to send an email through windows live mail I can't change the font.I can't even add emoticons.When I try to click on it,it's whited out and won't let me do anything.It does the same thing as the microsoft word trial when it runs out.It does not say the selection is locked though.What can I do?

you need to change to rich text (html) mode when writing a new message - the default plain text doesn't allow graphics, links or fancy fonts.

you'll need to change your options if you don't want to have to do this each time you write a mail:

click on blue rectangle in top-left hand corner >> options >> mail >> send >> change mail sending format to HTML
