Thanks, Jim. I guess the calendar pane will do it for me for now. I hope it doesn't turn into calendar pain.

Where is that quote coming from?

It's coming from the Calendar 'Options' -
    Change how you get reminders

It is from the link YOU posted "Windows Live Alerts".
I guess you missed the last line.

The "Change how you get reminders" link just brings me back to the Sevenforums main page.

I did. But I was distracted by the line AFTER the last line: "Sorry, there are no Alerts providers available in your country/region." And the line before the last line: "Please sign up with Windows Live Alerts partners directly to receive their newsletters or other content updates from them." In other words, it sounds like it has been discontinued at least in my country/region.

Well in the long run it really doesn't matter since I don't Login or use the online system anyway. I just use the Calender Pane and I can see upcoming events when I open WLM. I guess we can't complain too much about a free system.

    WLM and calendar reminder

after reading all the suggestions for getting reminders to work - a fundamental function of any calendar tool - I think I have the best answer - uninstall Live Mail and chose a different email client. And that's exactly what I'm going to do.
