Shortcuts to WEB sites stopped working

All of my shortcuts to WEB sites (e.g. ABC.com - Official Site of the ABC Network), whether on my desktop or in folders have stopped working. My links below the address bar on my browser still work though. Whenever I double click on any shortcut to open a WEB site, I get the two line message below (WEB URL, then Application Not Found):

ABC.com - Official Site of the ABC Network

    Application Not Found

The message is in a box and is accompanied by a symbol to the left of the first line, a white X inside a red circle. Has anyone seen this problem and how can it be fixed?

I don't know of anything I could have done to cause this problem. My OS is WIN 7 Home Edition 32 and I am using Firefox 3.6.13 for my browser most of the time. Occasionally, but rarely, I also use IE 9 Beta.

    Hello Cracker,

Downloading and merging the URL option in the tutorial below may be able to fix this for you. It will restore the default associations for URL files.

Default Programs - Associate a File Type or Protocol

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Thanks for the suggestion. I did it and it didn't fix the problem.

Did you restart the computer afterwards?

If so, then open Default Programs, set Internet Explorer as the default program with all of it's associations set to it as well, then set Firefox as the default program with all of it's associations set to it.

    Brink,

Thanks for that advice. It worked perfectly. I didn't have to reboot this time to get it working. Yes, I did reboot after the other try with the merges. I'll try to remember this if it happens again.

You're most welcome. That's great news. I'm happy to hear that it's working again. :)
