OK, I see what you mean, did you try the SFC that has been suggested?

That may fix it so you won't have to do the repair install.

Remember to right click and run as admin,

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Try that and tell us what it does. it'll take a few minutes to scan.

The 102MB was the update for that driver, can I burn the driver folder or copy it over to my external drive?

Put the drivers on a flash drive or burn a CD from your PC unless you deleted them already. With dial up I hope not.

Ok going to shut her down and do the SFC, going to disable the antivirus, don't want to be on-line without that.

No, all of the drivers are in 1 folder

It's going to want to restart if it needs to fix anything anyway, so your best bet is to just close everthing and let it do it's thing.

Just curious here, if this was a fresh install wasn't there an IE icon on the taskbar?

You said you couldn't find it earlier, or am I mistaken?

OK ran it twice, it said no integrity problems. Yes come to think of it there was an Icon there, but given the task bar is so different from Vista, I didn't realize that was what it was.
When I first bought this PC it had all kinds of extra "free" crap on it. Wasn't sure if that came as part of the windows stuff or from the OEM.

Given that it doesn't find a problem I'm going to try the installation of 9 over it and see what happens. At worst case senerio I go back and either repair or clean install.
