Read the faq here:

If you want to keep AVG, then I would recommend uninstalling it, and reinstalling without 'linkscanner'.
I reinstalled it without Linkscanner and it's still like that...
sigh....I guess this problem can't be fixed?...

Never say never!

From the above convesation, it's not clear whether AVG and/or Avast is issue or not. If you are sitting behind a hardware router, the following may be something consider:
  • Uninstall any/all AV software
  • Reboot
  • Check Task Manager processess, looking all of the processes (click that button in the lower left corner of the dialog window to verify that you have not AV processes running. Make sure you don't have any AV associated software running either.
  • Check your services - do you have any AV services installed and running.
  • Once you have done that you are naked to the world
  • Browse to a trusted site - hmmm .... I suspect SevenForums might qualify to test your page rendering speed.
  • If you are still slow then it still might be a internet connection speed issue. Run this test - Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test to eliminate your connection speed as the culprit
  • OK - re-install your AV, I know how naked a person can feel when without one installed.
The above should provide the data needed to either confirm that your AV solution is the issue or that it is not.

A couple of things to remember when attempting to trouble-shoot
  • Change one thing and only one thing for each test. Testing without changing something (see next item). Changing more than one thing for each test - well now you have to decide which change made the difference.
  • Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”.

I would say this issue is more related to the driver for the network controller. Look through Windows Updates to see if there is an update for it (you have to check it yourself to get it to download/install it). I had a similar problem with an older build until I downloaded and installed the updated driver. No problems since.

Are you using Windows 7 right? No, it's not incompatibility or anything else.
When you try Betas and RCs it happens this. Slow internet, and I had the same problem.

Q: Solution?
A: Windows 7 7227 SP1!

It's seems that this problems aren't affected on the version with SP1, the other possibility is to wait for Windows 7 Final, unfortunately .

To check or modify TCP/IP settings, open an elevated command prompt (run as administrator). Type in the following command (then press Enter):

netsh int tcp show global

You should see something like this:

Slow Internet Browsing Problem-tcp_params.png

To view commandline usage and parameters, type in:

netsh int tcp set global /?

Pay special attention to the Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level. This feature has been known to cause a lot of browsing issues. If it's enabled, try setting it to restricted or highly restricted. If your browsing speeds don't improve, disable it. Also set the Add-on Congestion Control Provider to "ctcp". This should boost overall throughput. The settings I've mentioned here are the two most important ones.

Last but not least, run the Internet Connectivity Evaluation Tool from Microsoft. It should give an idea of what your modem/router capabilities are.

I solved my internet speed browsing simply by resetting:
select #1.
1. netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
2. netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable
3. netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=enable
4. netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=default

makes it much faster, it also allows you to do many more pages and not crash.

or should I just go back to XP 64bit or Vista 64bit?
Could you go to speakeasy.net and run a speedtest. Could you tell use what the results are?

Thanks
