    Slow response from web browser

A while ago I changed to setting for the amount of conections IE made in respect of the number of links it made to different sites. This made a difference to the speed of my web brouser, it was faster.
Now the other day I loaded in a Divx program and have noticed that when I start up my web brouser which is IE8, the curser stays as the little arrow with a small blue circle running with it. My screen becomes unresponsive for up to 15 seconds then it starts to react to my commands.
The curser and the blue circle flash on and off quite fast while in this transition period. I will unload the last program (Divx) in a while but firstly thought I would ask if anyone else had had the same problem. I am running windows7 and its up to date with security and updates from windows people.
Just one more thing, if I just do a restore it should by rights just set back any windows setting that has altered since I loaded that program shouldnt it and leave any programs in place.
Thanks for your time gentlemen and ladies.

Yes, try system restore. Or before that, have you tried resetting IE. Tools>INternet Options>Advanced tab> Reset (at bottom).

Not quite sure, but perhaps you won't even to reset IE, can't you just reset the settings you applied?

Just tried a system restore and it would not do it. It did give a note that there was a file missing in the restore that stopped it working. and also a code. I will do it again and write them down then post again. I will try the IE reset now.

Watch out! It does affect Programs. From the System Restore FAQ:
"System Restore affects Windows system files, programs, and registry settings. It also can make changes to scripts, batch files, and other types of executable files on your computer. It does not affect personal files, such as e‑mail, documents, or photos..."
