Auto Delete downloaded file

I had the same problem as knightofdawn. I watched the file download and when the download finished it immediately vanished (was automatically deleted) from the destination folder. There was also a Windows message indicating that the "The publisher of jpegr_setup.exe couldn't be verified." So I suspected a security issue. I had just upgraded to Windows 7 and was still learning how the new system worked. Anyway, after a bit of digging around, I found that Norton Internet Security had flagged the file as a threat using Symantec’s new "reputation-based security technology", i.e. based on the opinions of users rather than any hard, empirical evidence. Because of this, Norton automatically quaranteened the file immediately after downloading, hence the "disappearing file".

I realize knightofdawn was using a different AV, but I wonder if something like this is what happened to the files he was downloading?

Disable Virus Auto-check in Firefox!

In an empty address bar, copy/paste

about:config

and press Enter

confirm 'I'll be careful, I promise'

Where the cursor blinks (after 'Filter'), copy/paste

browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone

you might get two lines as result. In the line only displaying 'browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone', double-click 'true', which will set the parameter to 'false'

close that window or tab.

Test if your Downloads window now behaves as it should by downloading a new file/ saving an image etc.

CAUTION: You just deactivated a security feature (that obviously is not coded well, causing an internal virus alert in Firefox running in certain Windows installations on specific computers , like Windows 7 Ultimate 64 on a mobo with an AMD Athlon 64 CPU). Please make sure you have installed a) WOT for Firefox Safe Browsing Tool | WOT (Web of Trust) b) a Malware scanner for your OS, like Avast (free) or Kaspersky (fee) for Windows, or Sophos (free) or Kaspersky (fee) for Mac OS X

Hi!

I've stuck with the same problem. Everything worked fine till one day I tried to download the potentially infected file (via Chrome). After that Chrome automatically removed file. And it looked ok. But right now any browser removes any downloaded file..

note: If file was downloaded via download manager - everything works fine.

Have you tried the previous suggestions in this thread?

Hoho, I've tried suggestions not only from this thread, but from the others too.. Nothing. And it happens only on the one of PC (home one). On the work and on the two laptops everything works fine... So... I need to re-install OS first of all

You can try a clean startup:
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

And you can download a large file (like this one) and use process monitor to see what app is deleting or moving the file. You should see a change in the amount of hard drive space that you have left if you download a big enough file. That will let you know if it is being deleted or moved.

You would only need to start the monitoring via process monitor when you see the download get near the end.
