Alternative to windows live Mail

Hi everyone. Please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong spot. I am about to migrate from Xp pro to Win7. I dont like the look of windows live mail
(sad to be losing Outlook Express). My question is are there any email programs that are not web style based like wlm and are more like outlook express.
I just wanted a few oppinions....Thanks

Thanks for moving this. I was going to place this message here but thought this section was for browser and email issues only. As this was a general question i was not sure i was allowed to post it here. Thanks...

There are many alternatives out there, I cannot give you a personal preference as I do not use any of them. Here is a list

Windows Seven Home Premium 32bit SP1

This is probably the closest you will get to XP's Outlook Express, but requires a certain amount of tech knowledge to set it up;

Windows Mail

I used it for around 8 months without any problems but now i am using Thunderbird

xp pro 32 bit

Thanks to all. I just installed windows live mail on my xp machine and have exported all my mail to external drive. Hopefully when i install windows live mail (temporarily) on windows 7 (which i'm installing tommorow) i should have no probs importing all mail back into wlm.
Once i have found my way around windows 7 then i will look at thunderbird or one of the seemingly endless amount of email clients out there to install.
Im so glad i came across this forum. I have found out so much already...Cheers

Thunderbird can be made to look a lot like Outlook Express.

The export/import functions of mail programs don't work very well and Thunderbird is no exception.

Thunderbird is a possible option. It isn't as "Busy" as live mail, but I'm still testing it.It seems stable enough.Live mail is a nightmare. !

beware of windows live mail 2011

WLMail 2011 is full of bugs... beware if you are moving from outlook express or from Outlook to Windows live mail 2011, especially if you have lots of mails and folders in OE or Outlook. You will not be able to open certain mails while it indexes its files. Absolute nightmare and un-usable. Microsoft WLM team should be ashamed! I have two i5 quad core systems running win7 pro and only thing that does not work right is WLMail 2011. The web is full of stories where WLM just hangs and waits and waits and waits, cannot open mails, etc. Where-as OE worked flawlessly, but within the constaints of XP and OE (dbx file sizes, etc). What a step backwards!!!!!!!!

The 2009 version is much better, but you have to stick with the 2009 version of all the Live Essentials Programs. However if you use Messenger, it now only accepts the 2011 version so users of 2009 have to forgo Messenger completely:

Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8

Some of my good friends from here will probably beat me up for this. But I am going to tell you anyhow.

Since many years, I use AOL for my mail. It is easy, straight forward and very easy to set up. I have never lost a single piece of mail and I can still access my mails from years back all the way to day1. And when I move from system to system, I do not have to worry about saving my mail or making extravagant installations.

I know that many people think that AOL is a dog. But those are probably people that never used it. Reminds me the Vista rumors at the time.
