    problem with windows live mail

I use Windows 7 Pro. I asemble my own computers from the parts. I got them put together aroound mide to late September. Windows live Mail came with the OS, it all worked very good, much like Outlook Express but different. Automatic update kept insisting that I update to Live Mail Essentials 2011. Atern a couple of months I did not like it so went to Programs and Features and remove Live Mail Exxentials, to my surprise it removed the original Windows Live Mail. I went to Microsoft, down loaded Windows Live Mail, installed and setup. A month went by, got hit by a drive by that started deleting files, had to re-install windows, all is well except now I keep getting bugged by Microosft to install the Essintials 2011.

Is there a way to do the update for only the features of this update that I want. The part that adds control bars at the top that look like Ofice 2007 which I do not like.

Another problem, posted here in another loaction. I tried to send a file to an address that wont complete because the addressee refuses refuses an .exe extension. I have not found a way to delete the send. Since the file did not send it does not appear in the sent folder, nothing appears in the draft folder. The only folders are INBOX, DRAFTS, SENT ITEMS, JUNK MAIL, DELETED ITEMS for each monitored email address.

You cant install part of an update but can configure most parts once it is. There is a outbox (scroll to the bottom) but then I am pretty sure you have checked on it.

My reasons for making the Windows Live Essentials 2009 Offline Installer available for download differ froms yours, but you can get it from my website: Mede8er Login Problems

It's is a legit version, if you're concerned about that. It's just that Microsoft no longer has the 2009 version available for download. I guess I'm lucky that I got the offline installer when I did.

Personally, I'm just waiting for the network issues on the Mede8er to get resolved before I upgrade to windows Live Essential 2011.

I may be corrected, but I think, until 2011, Live Mail was in Beta, Hence the constant update reminders.
I'm not 100% clear from your op, but I understand you did eventually install 2011 but did not like it?
You can, of course, only install the Mail portion of Live essentials, from the install options.
Maybe a useful tip. I have a "spare" small partition on my computer. In here I have my mailbox. When I installed Windows live, in the advanced options for the mail accounts, I pointed to this Mailbox.
In the event of a reinstall or recovery, of my main partition, the maibox and its entire contents remain intact, and I can quickly reattach it to my mail program

On your last query. If it does not appear in any of those boxes, from where are you trying to delete it?
If you expand the navigation pane, you should see an item "OUTBOX". Your unsent mail will be there.
fwiw. Many firewalls, antivirus etc, as you probably know, will catch .exes, as they are vulnerable. The easiest way to overcome this is to change the extension to something harmless (jpg), and tell the recepient in the mail text to change it back again.

The problem with 2009/2010 is that you have the option to install that version of Messenger. Messenger recently had a mandatory upgrade to the latest version which comes with WLE 2011. That's why they are bugging you to upgrade. Try uninstalling Messenger. You should be able to use the 2009/2010 version without being asked to upgrade simply by never installing Messenger. If necessary, uninstall the problematic version of Essentials via "Programs and Features" and reinstall the one which preceded 2011 (2009/2010):
Web Version Installer – English Language Version

    and don't install Messenger again.

Replying to ZigZag3143, Thanks for you tip on "Outbox" did not find it anyware in the column of my email addresses, but did find it in "Customize Tool Bar" sure thought I looked there but missed it. It now is in the tool bar on the left side probably can change where is sits.
I plan to read the other replies for assistance in the Essentials 2011 install.

    Thanks again.

After reading the answers to my question I would like to as you a question about updating to mail Esentials 2011. You indicated that it can be re-configured after the install. My Question: Can I remove the Office 2007 tool bar area and go back to a normal menu bar and tool bar like the plain WLM had? Realy did not like Office 2007 tool bars either, but have to put up with them. Never had any problems finding the tool or command I wanted with Office 2003.
