    if it is somehow gone, is there a way to reinstall it from the windows disc?

    I want to add here, that what i'm hoping to accomplish here is getting a shortcut in my startup area for windowslive.com

    You want a shortcut to Windowslive.com? So you want to check your hotmail from your web browser?

    Why didn't you say so? what web browser are you running?

    Go to the url you want (mail.live.com) or (windowslive.com) and drag it from the address bar to your start menu where you will be given the option to "pin it".
