Outlook without "Outlook Today" calendar, Just "Inbox"

I have installed Outlook (which looks more like OE than Live mail, perhaps) and started using it. I am fairly happy. The only thing that bugs me is that it starts up with two windows and two tabs, one of which is the calendar functionality. I can close that down again but it is a pain. Is there a way of executing Outlook so that only Inbox appears? I want to disable the calendar completely and never see it again.

I use an online, cloud computing, calendar since I have many computers and waiting for calendars to synchronise is something I can do without.

Which version of Outlook are you using?

I am very sorry but I am not sure how the above problem arose. I am not having the problem any more. I am sorry to have wasted your time. I am happily using Outlook in one window.
I think that Outlook express only ever opens in one window, whereas Outlook can open in two. This confused me. I am sorry.
