Why is my pc recognised differently everytime??

    Hi all,

A little problem and I'm not sure whats causing it.

I use sky player online, and anybody who has used it before will know that it registers your pc as the main registered computer and you can change this once a month.

Anyway, everytime I log on to sky player, it is recognising my pc as a different pc, for example first time I log on it'll recognise my pc as PC1 then the next time it will be PC2 etc, meaning that within 2 log ins I've reached the maximum changes per month and can no longer use sky player.

It seems to be a setting with pc somewhere rather than sky player as its the same when I log on to my alliance-leicester internet banking. The log on uses a username and password as standard but also asks an additional security question when it recognises you've logged on from a new unfamiliar pc, but its asking me this security question everytime I log on meaning its not recognising my pc as being the same as I used the last time.

I have 02 broadband, windows 7 32bit and am using a netgear router.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Andy

    Dinamic IP address, maybe?

Does this sky player give you an option to remember your login information, like when you're actually logging into a website? Saving this information adds a cookie to your web browser which is reused every time you access a website?

Just trowing ideas at ya, no idea what sky player is...

This happened to me early last year, I only solved it by calling skyplayer support who deleted all my account details and re-registed my main PC, everything has been fine since.

I'd give them a call, they seem to have a dedicated team that answer the phone very quickly and are very helpful (I dont think they have much to do )

I don't think the dynamic ip address makes a difference,

I've searched all over the sky player site and nowhere does it say that a static ip address is required etc.

By the way, sky player allows sky tv subscribers to watch sky tv online. (UK)

I've already tried this, they told me to re-install silverlight etc and they reset my main pc but it hasnt made any difference.

Seeing as its doing the same on my internet banking site I dont think its sky player, possibly some router settings somewhere??

I 'm having the same problem
The only way i know of fixing it is to call support & get them to reset sky player devices. I've had to do this several times a month , Sky haven't given me any hassle about it seems like it happens to a lot of folks.
Using a different browser , upgrading a browser or clearing cookies seem to be triggers.
It could be worse at least you can get to watch downloaded Movies without signing in.

Sorry to bump an old thread on my first visit.
Has anybody found a workaround for this yet?

Since skyplayer stores a cookie in the browser to validate the machine in use, it may be that IE9 and or w7 is forcing this cookie to be reloaded, or refreshing it every session.

There's cookie handling settings in Tools>Internet Options>Privacy> which then has a Sites button to set individual sites for Allow all or Block cookies etc.

I personally don't have a sky subscription so can't experiment with it.

Thanks in advance for any info or further ideas!
    Cheers Simon
