Importing a PST file to Outlook 2007 on Windows 7

I got a new computer at work and had backed up my old Outlook on a PST file. I have been trying to import that into the new computer and continue to get a message "The personal folder file (PST) is already in use in the current profile"

Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this front but if anyone could help me I really need to be able to import my contacts and messages from the old computer onto this one. Any help would be much appreciated.

The best way to do this and especially if you have another partition on your laptop, Is to copy your .pst file into a folder in your secondary partition. I renamed my pst to backup.pst as not to confuse it with the Outlook attributed .pst.

Now go to the control panel, find the mail setup icon open the mail setup and choose the data file button. Under the data files tab, choose add, scroll to where your .pst file is and then choose the set default option.

If you don't have an Email account setup, do it now with the mail setup option.

Now open outlook. It will use the default .pst file. You can then go back to the mail setup and delete the original .pst file that was created by outlook.

Even if your .pst is on the same drive, you can do the same task.

Always keep a copy of your .pst file.
