    Firefox 4 RC vs 4.0b13pre

Haven't seen anybody commenting on the Firefox RC, here's the download link for those interested: Firefox 4 RC.

At the same time, the nightly builds are continuing with the 4.0b13pre version, available in both x86 and x64 flavors.

Now I am not sure how do the two versions compare, any ideas?

The RC was cut from 4.0b13pre - up till yesterday they were the same. They have once again started checking in to mozilla-central, and 4.0b13pre will no longer be the same as new fixed land. I don't think they willl re-number b13pre until they actually ship 4.0

Can one then disable the auto-update feature of the nightly builds and use the x64 build of yesterdays 4.0b13pre as the 64-bit version of the RC?

There is no 64bit RC. The current 64 bit builds are mostly for testing of Mozilla's build intrastructure. Mozilla has no plans for an 'official' 4.0 release in 64 bit, but they hope, at least last I heard/read, that it will in Firefox 5.0. There are 64 bit Linux, and Mac builds, but no windows.

As it stands, I'm still going to use 3.6.15 until I hear about a fix from either MS or Mozilla about the Texture issue.

I am aware that there is no 64-bit RC. However, if you're right and yesterdays 4.0b13pre is identical to the RC, then I can use the 64-bit version of that yesterdays build provided I can disable the auto-update function (in fact, I have been using the 64-bit Minefield for a very long time now, no problems at all, but the daily updates are getting to be a bit annoying).

Click the Minefield/Firefox button -> Options->Advanced tab->Updates tab - uncheck the top box, or all three if you desire. No more updates till you check manually.

Minefiled->Help->About Minefield: click on the check for updates button.

If you run Minefield in Sandboxie it will prevent it from updating successfully.
