Can I.E.8 be removed before installing 9

I am wondering if their is a way to download I.E.9 to desktop and then remove I.E.8 and then open desktop and install I.E.9 ?
If that can be done would it be a good way to get a clean install?

No it can't; and it's not necessary. IE9 will just update 8-9.

If you could remove it (which is not possible), you would lose all your settings and favorites.

You can turn IE8 off through "turn Windows Features on or off"

True, but then you most likely couldn't use IE9 - which the OP does want to use; was just worrying about a "clean" install of IE9.

Why wouldn't you be able to install IE9 after turning off IE8? That may give the clean install of IE9 the OP wanted.

I doubt it since the files are still there. That's my take, If I'm wrong I'm wrong.

BTW I would imagine that turning it (IE8) off in Windows Features would probably get turned back on with IE9 getting installed... or you might get an error/warning saying it needs to be turned on in order for IE9 to be installed.

And agian, turning off IE8 isn't going to delete the files.

My two cents.

Well, you may be right. In any case I am not going to install and uninstall IE9 again to test it either
