how 2 check 4 virus in hotmail zip

    hi all
i recently ordered some neon wire from ebay which is comming from hong kong. since i ordered it i hav recieved 2 emails saying they r from ups. i just deleted the first. then 2day i got another but this 1 contains a zip folder. i dnt think it seems right. how can i scan the zip? if i can? i am using avast 6 free. this is copied from the mail. there is no heading at the top.

    Dear customer.

The parcel was sent your home address.
And it will arrive within 3 business day.

More information and the tracking number are attached in document below.

    Thank you.
© 1994-2011 United Parcel Service of America, Inc.

it contains a 29.1 kb zip folder.my thinking is "if it is legit and is just delivery details then why would the details need 2 b in a zip folder? and not just in the email.

this is the addy its from United Parcel Service (adminssu@ups.com)
was i right in just deletin the first 1 n do same with this?
edit: actually i think i changed my ebay to a diff email addy so it shouldnt go 2 this 1 anyway. but im not sure if i changed b4 or after this order lol. hmm delete me thinks

Hotmail employs a free virus scanner that scans all attachments when you try to open them. If you try to open an attachment with a virus, the website will alert you.

I dont know about avast but many AVs place a context menu "scan with" item that appears when you right click on a zipped file. Kaspersky does, so does malwarebytes antimalware. Wouldnt be a bad idea to download and install the freeware version of mbam and use that feature, if avast doesnt have it.

    Hi,

Its unlikely that Malwarebytes would miss something like this. I would suggest registering on the Malwarebytes forum (you can access it from the Support link here):

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/contact.php

and then upload the file for detailed analysis.

In addition, you can also upload the ZIP file to Jotti (make sure its less than 20MB in size) to check it using several different anti-malware engines.

Let us know what the outcome is.

    Regards,
    Golden
