Firefox problem - Freeze a couple of seconds, a windows open & closes

    Hi guys.
I've been having this problem and it's driving me nuts. Literally.

The title of the thread is a bit ambiguous. Let me explain. In certain circonstences, I don't know what they are (maybe around Flash objects), I am browsing normally, closing & opening tabs and sometimes, Firefox freezes for a couple of seconds and when it returns, I can see a CMD window open & close immediately. The icon always open & close next to Fifefox (to the left) in the tasbar. Note that I only see an icon open & close in the taskbar only.

I've done scans of the following :
    - Malwarebytes
    - NOD32
    - Spybot - Search & Destroy

Malreware byte detected some "Malware.Trace" (I believe it's just a scary name for tracing cookies) if I remember but those were promptly removed, NOD32 detected (probably a false positive) something in "crystaldiskinfo 4.0" installation file and Spybot found tracing cookies. But nothing remotely dangerous was found.

The problem still persists. The icon in the taskbar open and close so fast that I have no time to see what it is. Here si the addons I have running in my firefox.

    --Extensions--
    AdBlock Plus 1.3.9
    Download Statusbar 0.9.8
Element Hiding Helper for AdBlock Plus 1.1.1
    Menu Editor 1.2.7
    Stylish 1.2

    --Apparence--
    Abstract Electric Evolution

    --Plugins--
    iTunes Application Detector 1.0.1.1
Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin 1.0.0.8
    Shockwave Flash 10.3.183.5
    Silverlight Plugin 4.0.60531.0

    Help!

    Lebon14,

You may find "Malware.Trace" is not quite as innocent as you think.
Suggest you do some searches via Malwarebytes Forum & Google.

@JMH : Those probably come from the attacks I got when surfing, for exemple, images. Once I was told my PC was infected (Malware.Trace probably come from this, but I closed everything and I ignored everything) and another time, a fake antivirus download started on his own and I stopped it immediately too. If this was about viruses, I wouldn't have posted here...

Now, back at the problem, where on Earth that CMD windows come from. *firefox freeze for a moment* Oh wow... just as I am typing... I just witness another one of those...

P.S Redid a complete Malwarebyte scan and no infection came from it.

Are you certain it is a command prompt opening and closing quickly? Could it be an updater window? Perhaps one of your addons is automatically updating, or a regular program is in the background, and taking CPU cycles, thus freezing FF? Perhaps try running FF in safe mode to see if the problem goes away.

    1. Test surfing with another browser to see if the problem is browser related.
    2. Use Autoruns (logon tab) to see if any suspicious programs start on bootup.
    3. Like 2, check for suspicious programs in the list of processes in task manager. Following site has good info on what is what:

@A Guy : Will try that later on... can't exactly do it now because I have a huge playlist of Youtube waiting to be watch and safe mode will render Flash useless.

@preiius 1. Will do, but not now.
    2. Already checked and nothing is out of the ordinary
    3. Thanks for that link. It might be useful in the future.
