Still having the same issue. I have deleted all the files I could within the Favorites folder and have left in it the default stuff that is included with Windows. The favorite folder now contains: AppData 1.34 GB (3 sub folders: local, locallow and Roaming), Downloads (19.2 GB), Desktop (12.2 GB) and My Pictures (8.9 GB). I do not care of having any of these folders under my Favorites folder. Can I get rid of them?

Whatever you do do not delete your AppData
Its safe to delete or move somewhere else whatever is in Desktop ,Downloads & My Pictures but probably best to leave the folders alone I don't think you would be allowed to delete your desktop anyway.

The Favorites folder that is at the top in Windows Explorer is not where your bookmarks are .
They are in c:\users\"your user name"\Favorites it has a golden star on the correct folder.

Paste %USERPROFILE%\Favorites into the Start search box & you'll see it.

You'd better check out the links folder as well
The favorites folder for windows explorer sidebar in windows7 is located in:
    %USERPROFILE%\Links

    Hi Stve

Thank you for the post. I uninstalled IE 9 and IE 8 and decided to use Firefox for now - it works great. I will search for instructions on CLEAN Install of IE. I may give IE a try then.
