Most of my Windows Live Mail contains embedded links. When I click on those links, I expect the URL there to be transferred to Firefox. Instead, I get a cryptic message from Windows Live Mail, "There was a problem sending the command to the program." Is there some simple trick that fixes this?
http, https, and ftp protocols are associated with Firefox, and file extensions .htm, .html, .shtml, .xht, and .xhtml are associated with Firefox...I presume this is what is meant by "default browser"
Yes, but there should be an easier way to associate those to FF: copied from somewhere --
- Go to Tools the Options after that click on the Advanced tab and under the General tab look for System Defaults make sure the box is checked and to the right you will see a Check Now button click on it and it will allow you to make Firefox the default browser. From now on any links you click in WLM or Outlook they should open up in Firefox.
brady, You seem to be agreeing that Fire Fox IS setup to be my default browser. And you seem to be agreeing that there should not be more to do than that. An easier way to do what has already been done begs the issue. I am looking for some other reason which would cause the symptoms I described. Thank you though, for wanting to be so helpful.
I'm having the same problem, and have confirmed that FF is my default browser. If I move the .htm file to another computer, it opens just fine in Firefox. There must be something unique about the configuration of this PC.
In posts about this problem in Windows XP I see reference made to DDE. Can that be the issue here in Windows 7? And if so, where do I find the proper settings?
Here's an odd observation that may help. If I double-click on the html file in Windows Explorer or in Total Commander, I get the error. However, if I type it into the address bar (file:///C:/Program%20Files%20%28x86%29/FolderName/filename.htm) it opens just fine.
What's the difference?
