    Cannot use Google - 'The DNS server isn't responding' - please help!

    Hi there

    I' am hoping someone can help me as I can't use AOL / IE properly.

    I do have internet connection, and have posted this query on the PC with the problem, BUT, when I try to use Google in IE / AOL, I get a blank page, or when I click on 'diagnose connection problems' I get the error message:
    'The DNS server isn't responding'

    I had reset my IE settings as I was having intermittant similar problems when searching on Google, but now the problem is permanent.

    I have read that I should change my DNS settings to:

    • 208.67.222.222
    • 208.67.220.220

    but there are no instructions as to how I do this.

    Please can someone help me get the PC back to a fully usable state?

    p.s
    Firefox is working fine, and I have just followed these steps:

    Flush DNS and request a new IP address from your ISP server by following these steps.

    * Click Start
    * Click run
    * In the run box type cmd.exe and click OK
    * When the command prompt opens type the following. ENTER after each new line.
    * ipconfig /flushdns
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    exit

    Many thanks
    Tara

    Weird, the problem has now gone, and I don't even know how I sorted it out

    It seems too good to be true, so I may be back.......

    in IE8 I had that issue with searching if I used the address bar. but only if I had google as my default search provider. but the search bar worked every time. I hated that with a passion.

    I'm glad that issue is missing from IE9. but IE9 has too many other quirks I don't like.

    I am using IE 9 (or was)

    I have decided to not use IE anymore, and have moved over to 'Pale Moon' (stripped down Mozilla Firefox and its very fast)
    So far, I'm happy, and my old Firefox add ons that wouldn't work after the last two updates are working there nicely :)

    yeah it seems the more and more they update these browsers the worse they get. I don't like any browser out there right now.
    none of them seem to work 100%.
