Check this Adobe article for possible solutions.

I would imagine your installation screwed up and needs to be uninstalled before you have another attempt at installing Flash Player.

You could try a system restore to a point before you tried to install Flash Player, and then try again.

Thanks,Seavixen32. I've already tried Adobe's solutions and several others. Have uninstalled with Adobe's uninstaller, reinstalled at least half a dozen times. Think I'll make an image backup, run sf/scan, then reinstall and see if that works. Will post results.

Can I ask? You say it claims that installation succeeded but it really hasn't. How does that manifest itself?
Are you trying to install it for IE or another browser?

Don't reinstall just yet, that's an awful lot of work just to get Flash going. We can solve this. :)

After the installer completes the download and install ,internet explorer 9 automatically connects to the Adobe site and a message that says "Install sucessful! You are now running Flash Player". But going to a site that requires Flash Player, it gives a message that I do not have Flash Player installed. Searching the registry does find several keys listing Macromedia and Flash Player as being installed. Also the same with Program Files and Program apps. Flash Player still does not work.

And you're definitely installing the IE version of the plugin?

Try the links JMH posted above.
