There is a reason Mozilla announces the release of a product days after uploading it to their servers. And that reason is that testing is still performed and that finding a serious issue would force the company from shipping the product to end-users (these can be viewed as release candidates).

And this is exactly what happened in the case of Firefox 8.0.1. The build was available for download from Mozilla’s FTP up until today, when it was deleted because of RoboForm-related issues.

One of the problems the development team was working in order to ready a Firefox 8.1.0 update was gathering information for blocklisting RoboForm DLL. It looks like trouble ran much deeper than that and a second build is now required.

You can still download the initial Firefox 8.0.1 release and it should not cause any trouble as long as you don’t mix RoboForm in.

roboform lite works fine with 8.0.1 and still reads from my roboform passwords folder.

Thanks for the link A Guy, that was insightful. I know about viewing passwords in Firefox, in fact I rely on this if I ever need a password that won't auto-fill and I've forgotten what it is.

Since my whole system is encrypted with TrueCrypt, I'm not worried about encrypting browser passwords separately either, but I can definitely appreciate the capabilities of RoboForm. :)

small notepad file for each site & password stored in a folder called "PASSWORDS"
I have forty-two sites and passwords stored in a folder. Probably takes a whole ten seconds longer than Robowhatever.
And for a few seconds you'd risk all of your security ???????????????

That folder is encrypted? Roboform stores the passwords encrypted, and does the form filling for you. It is not a security risk, such as plain text passwords in a file might be. A Guy

I'm talking about thousands of usernames and passwords here. Try to that manually. I know my time is precious.

And to some random guy up there, free isn't better, I thought all Americans understand that better than the rest of the world. Alas, wrong. You use lastpass for free because other people use premium version and paid the premium for you. Same thing applies to Roboform lite. Nothing wrong with using either free or paid version. You enjoy lower cost, I enjoy richer user experience, that all.

No, they might not be. They are.

You could be sharing your password textfile/folder/whatever it is with the whole world and not know it anytime you turn any kind of sharing on.

Anytime you get a trojan or keylogger or other spyware on your system, you're making it very easy for them to simply read all your passwords without even having to go into the browser's (or Roboform's) database, only to find such database already encrypted.

I could go on like this...but just think your own words over for a minute, for your own sake. :shock:

I say might be, as they might be in an unencrypted folder. If they are unencrypted, they ARE insecure. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. A Guy
