Message says Firefox running, Task Manager didn't indicate it was?

I moved my Thunderbird and Firefox profile folders from their original locations in Roaming... to a C:\ ... location because their backups were in Compatibility Files. When I went to start either one, I got a close program message. It stated that FF (or when starting TB), they were already running and had to be closed. I then ran Process Explorer and Windows Task Manager. neither of whih showed any indication that these programs were running. I then return the profiles to their original locations, and FF and TB returned to normal. Can anyone explain what was going on?

Yeah, I know that I probably didn't move the profile correctly, but I was trying to find out why the error message said a program was running when I could find any indication that it was?

Probably, as a totally scientific theory based on nothing whatsoever, because you had not moved the profile correctly, and, thus, Firefox was more or less attempting to run; that's why I sent you the link to moving profiles correctly, which should, as a second totally scientific theory based on nothing whatsoever, ameliorate the malady.
