With some sites, clicking back button doesn't bring you to prev. page

Ever see this? You search google, click on a result, and then either backspace or click the back button, but instead of going back to google, you stay on the current site. Why does that happen, and is there anything to do about it?

Using IE 8 32-bit in W7 64-bit here, but have been seeing this problem for a long time with previous versions.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

I thought I was going crazy with that too. Check for malware, spyware and adware....could be the culprit.

Most of the time if you double click the back button it will get you back one page when that happens... Seems it's some kind of redirect that some pages have trying to keep you on their page.... Only "fix" I've found is clicking the back button quickly a couple times to get past that redirect ...

Sedril is right - it's not a bug or malware, it's not even browser-dependent (I've noticed it with Firefox myself).

With some times, when you visit them you end up going through some kind of redirect/forward link (but you don't see it) which then sends you to the actual destination. When you go back one page, all you do is go to the redirection again - and it looks like you're stuck.

One simple trick (at least in Firefox, not sure if it works in IE) is to rightclick the back arrow. That gives you a mini-history of previously visited pages and you can go back multiple pages at a time, thus simply skipping over the redirect.

I have this problem occasionally too. As a work-around (in Vista) I just click on the down-arrow to the right of the Back and Forward Buttons, and displayed is the list of all the pages I have visited on that website. I can choose any one to go back to. Not sure if you have that same down-arrow in Win 7, but hopefully you can do the same thing.

Or you can try a keyboard shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + H (or Ctrl + H) opens the History dialog so that you can check the websites browsed. Press Esc to close the dialog.
