ANd you do open them from the same domain?

IF you do it from two different domains it works but not from the same domain.
Have tried about 20 machines so far...

    Reset DOES NOT help.

The problem is still in that fact that smart grouping only will recognize pages from different domains. IF the pages are opened from the same domain like to subfourums here on sevenforum it will not group the tabs smartly

Still searching for a solution. MS own newsgroups gave nothing so it doesn't look good.

I now can say for sure that you aren't opening them in the same order as we do.

MS has confirmed that it can't be done in the way we want it with the current code.

And yes, we are running a case against MS to get them to fix IE8.

it grouped them smartly for me... i tried this thing out, like you said, from the same domain, and it worked. like i had sevenforums on one tab and another sevenforums on the other tab. i right clicked the news section, clicked open in new tab, and it appeared right in the middle of the 2.

Yes because I think you did it in a different way, I belive you opened multiple tabs against the www.sevenforums.com URL. If you do that then you will get smartgrouping but thats not the problem.

The problem is that when you open one window against www.sevenforums.com and then use the middle button to create new tabs. then it will NOT do smartgrouping. For something as simple as the first page of this forum, it's not a problem but if it requires a number of clicks and possibly a logon procedure then it starts to become a problem, if you then multiply it with 10 000 users, It is a problem.

And as I think you demonstrated, by opening the first tab differently you get a different behaviour, this will also be a problem for the users and the helpdesk.
