    WLM nightmare

Every time I go to set someone up with a live mail account and use their in existing email address the wretched program will not accept the address they already have and keeps requesting that it has to be set up as a hotmail one. If I ask it to use their own address it comes with some rubbish aboout being in anaothe domain or something.

Am absolutely sick of this program why in the name of reason cannot the damn thing just accept the persons existing address. I mean no one wants to start letting everyone else a new address to send to them especially if they have a lot of contacts.

I set my own up so what is the go with it now and this one and only feature makes cleaning up someones machine a nightmare.

Which begs the question: Why are you still using it?

I don't mean that sarcastically. Why use it when there are alternatives?

"what are the most popular email programs" - Google Search
I don't igna I suppose I'll just have to look at something else mate it's just that it is so handy just having it on the taskbar that I find it useful. Plus it makes it easy for the folks I do this stuff for as I find having to access the net for hotmail gmail etc is just another extra step to have to make.

I'll have a look at what you have got there - thanks again - sorry about the rant but it does make me so annoyed that they have to make it so difficult.

It would help if we knew the type of account (IMAP, HTTP, POP3). The HTTP protocol is specific to Hotmail, so it would require a Hotmail account. By the same token, most normal email addresses are not HTTP and would not work as HTTP accounts. Also there is an option for web mail (browser) users to access their Hotmail over a secure connection but if you want to access it via WLM, you must disable this option on the web.

Thanks Ron my own machine/s use my old email address as provided by the ISP, and uses POP in and STMP - I think it is out so I don't have to use a hotmail account.

I just had to put mail.XXXXX.com in both spaces and away it all went - no dramas.

But just lately I haven't been able to do that and the last one uses the same ISP as myself so thought it would be a piece of cake.

That is with signing up for WLM in the first pace of course.

But at least it is working only with a hotmail address which means letting everyone know aht the new address is and if you are like me that means banks, friends, buying sites , etc etc

I just find somethings have got so complicated now and I cannot understand why one just cannot join up and tell it what your email address is without having to set up the in / out info. The machines / system seems to know everything else you want to do like the Google search for example putting up suggestions before one gets to the end of the search query.

Oh well thats enough ranting. Thanks for the input mate I do appreciate it

There are a lot of new complicaations and bugginess with WLM. But setting up traditional POP3 or IMAP email accounts within WLM should be very similar to the way we have always done it in Outlook Express.

Yeah I know Ron but it still doesn't explain why my own personal account with the same ISP as I tried to set up for my friend went as smooth as and yet zip with hers.

As a test you could delete your account and set it up again. (Save its subfolders first if there are messages in them you want to save.) It sounds like there may be something wrong with her email/password combination.
