Have you tried opening iE9 "without add-ons" and going to the settings "cog" then onto the "general tab" choosing "Tabs" then "Settings" on the RH side... then clicking "Restore defaults" in the Tabbed Browsing Settings screen that will open?

The thinking is that when other defaults are restored in iE9 under the advanced tab it does not affect browsing tab behaviour - whereas my suggestion will.

After a "Restore defaults" operation close the browser.

Restart it the same way, set your tab preferences up afresh. It might now behave itself.

That's a very good suggestion - don't fix the problem, just use another product? If only I could do that with other things in life. Alas, a new year's resolution for another year then :).

Seriously though, I have seen this with IE8 as well, and it comes down to Norton/Symantec products registering themselves incorrectly, which the post in the articles linked above does fix (as it re-registers the correct IE binaries as handlers for new windows and tabs).

I am really gald you guys stuck around and saw this thru.

The above link to ie8-rereg-32on64.cmd and 64on64.cmd took care of the the IE32bit new tabs not displaying.

All is good on the home front.

On a side note, this repair seems to be needed if a person had a Norton software installation. I am the only one that installed software, and only installed MSE and MSS for virus and malware protection. Well that and Defender.

Like I said, this showed up right after the IE9 upgrade. I believe IE8 work fine. Upgraded the same day to IE9.

    Thanks Guys,
    Another green check
