Windows Live Mail will not run in Win7 64bit

I just spent the night doing a clean install of Win7 Home Premium 64bit. Windows Live Mail was working right up to the moment I decided to go to bed, about 8 am.

But now when I try to open it, it just shows the busy cursor for about five seconds before opening an error window which says "Windows Live Mail has stopped working."

No kidding, eh?

Another message opens with it and says "Do You want to send more information about the problem?" I then click on the "Details" button and it says the following "WERD164.tmp.hdmp" from one of my App/Temp folders might be helpful for MS to work on the problem. So I send the message and the error window closes. But Live Mail just won't open, period.

I tried doing a repair of all the Live Essentials from the Add/Remove Programs panel and it says it successfully did the repair. But it still doesn't work! So I uninstalled the Live Mail program, alone, from the Live Essentials package and then reinstalled it. And still it won't work!!!

Does anyone know what is going on?

Amazingly, I found out what the problem was ...

It was a program called ATi Tray Tools. Once I uninstalled it, Live Mail worked perfectly again!

Now if that isn't amongst the strangest conflicts I've ever seen

Apparently they had a problem with digital signatures on Windows 7. If that's the issue they may have fixed it: Ati Tray Tools Latest Download for Windows 7, XP, Vista

I found when I went to my mail storage folder that I was denied access to its contents. I used the take ownership registry hack which allows me to right click on any file or folder and select "Grant Admin Full Control". WLM now works again. I recall resetting defaults at some stage but can't recall exactly where or what. So I assume that may have caused the problem - or maybe not. Take Ownership is built into Windows I think from W2K to Win7 and is fully documented on the Microsoft site - It's a command line tool but someone created a reg file which you right click on and run as Admin. You can look to the microsoft site or wait for me to locate the reg file. Maybe 10 or 20 minutes
OK got it ! copy and paste all below into notepad and save as GrantAdmin.reg or some thing meaningful, as long as the file type is .reg
