    "Localising" BBC website

The BBC website normally opens with a LONDON-centred focus but click on the LONDON label and it's easy to refocus this to your own home area so that your local news and weather etc are included every time you log in - I'm sure that many of you will be familiar with this.
I have a desktop and a laptop connected via the same router and want both to show localised content. The desktop is fine and always does so but the laptop will not hold the setting. Change to any page within the BBC coverage and, on return to the Home page, the setting has reverted to LONDON. Presumably there is a correction somewhere for this.
    Can anyone advise please?

This is probably to do with your settings as regards cookies. By the way, does the BBC site seem slow and sluggish for you?

    Slowish but not too slow.

Click on london and change there.

He already knows about clicking on London, as he mentions it!

As regards the slowness of the site, I think this started happening at the end of last week for some reason.

As Dwarf says its to do with cookies.
If you use IE9 Clearing Cache and Controlling Cookies in Internet Explorer 9
If you use Opera open the BBC site right click on the page edit preferences select cookie tab & untick Delete on exiting Opera
Chrome is Options > under the bonnet>Privacy >Content settings>Cookies>Manage exceptions
Firefox >Options>Privacy>History>Firefox will> set to use custom settings >Accept cookies>Exceptions

    stve,
I use IE9 so tried the NUIT site suggestions but with no benefit. I thought cookies might be the cause myself. I use CCleaner from time to time and that has a cookie allow/deny facility which has always been set to allow BBC sites, in fact, the settings on both my machines for both IE9 and CCLeaner are identical.
Hardly earth shaking, but it is annoying.

I'm almost certain it has to be cookies try & spot any difference between your PC & laptop's settings.
Might find something here to help under the Cookie tab.

I think http://www.bbc.co.uk/ has problems generating the required cookie
if you open BBC News - Home & set your location there it works for your London page as well.

I think the site is having changes I know this as the Sports pages have changed, this may effect sluggish use of the site.

Streaming media from the site often times out, or refuses to run... annoying... but yes, OP's problem is to do with cookies and CCleaner can be told which cookies to keep, which will solve the issue...
