    Windows Live Mail 2011

    Hi Folks,

Why do I keep getting this prompt to add contact everytime I open WLM, when it's already added.

    Hi Roderunner,

You might have the answer to this mystery at Entourage or Mac adding .htm files to emails « Ideas to improve your website from Solve the Web.

If for some reason your program failed to sign-in, your contacts that were added when signed in would not be in the "not-signed-in" contact list so it would display the "add contact" link. (Same thing if you were signed-in and your contact was added when not signed it, it would not be in the "signed-in" list.)

    Hi wanchoo
    Sorry, it did not help.

    Hi roncerr,
I have WLM on 2 computers and I sign-in with the same Hotmail account. All my contacts are put in to it directly. I don't know if mail addresses are case sensitive, but I know they are as shown.

    2009 or 2011 on both?
Is this a new problem or has it always been like that?
Have you tried a repair of WLE?

I wonder if you used the so-called "updated version" of WLE:
Update: Windows Live Mail Essential to version 15.4.3555.0308

I got the update from Download Windows Live Mail 2011 (15.4.3555) - FileHippo.com before the latest released version.

Paul Thurrott expressed his frustration with the "undocumented fixes" here: Microsoft Updates Windows Live Essentials 2011, Or So We're Told - SuperSite Blog Blog
But he also quoted from a Microsoft statement that indicates it will be come mandatory some day:

"In the coming weeks, customers on Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7 will receive a notification prompting them to upgrade to the new version," Abrahams notes. "Since this release contains critical fixes for the Essentials package, in a few months, the update will become required for all eligible customers."

The version I'm using is still available from MS for XP users.
