How to get Outlook to alert me to new email?

Don't see any way to do it. I'm used to Thunderbird which makes configuring easy. What gives, Mr. Gates? (Oh yeah, you're a retired philanthropist now).

No, I haven't; thanks for the tip. But what I really need is a visual cue, so I can just glance at the system tray as I cruise by.

Mr Gates may be a retired philanthropist, but he left instructions for his minions not to desert us. :)

One thing you could try that i don't think is mentioned in the link from seavixen32 (forgive me if it is and i missed it)
Display the envelope when you have unread messages?

Click on the little arrow on the notifications bar and select customize

Find this option, click the drop down box and select 'Show icons and notifications'

Click OK and that envolope should only appear while you have unread messages.
    Hope this helps.

Aha! Excellent. I'd tried using the useless in-program help, but forgot there's a lot more online.

    Thanks.
