Thanks again for your patience. I can find no trace anywhere of the Ask.com toolbar other than it's presence on my desktop. I will try your latest suggestion and get back to you. Yeah I thought it funny/strange about the Ask bloke.

Not to butt in, but can you confirm that the issue is an actual toolbar in Firefox, and not just that ask is the default search provider? In any case, one of these two may help.

Pretty much worked the same there, just that when I get rid of ask iget bing, get rid of bing the same way and get amazon. It was the second of your options that I had the first success with. I will keep looking how to get rid of amazon. To answer your first question, my default search is google, ask just popped in through the back door.

    Is the toolbar gone now?
Also Right click keyword.URL and select reset in about:config to make google your default search engine when searched from firefox's search field.

Gooday all and thank you again. All is well now with the PC. It has the main addy bar and then a small google search bar. So that part of the problem is solved. Just Mr amazon to go! Why do we have 2 anyway?
On the lappy I have got rid of Ask.com but it was then replaced by Bing .com. I then got rid of Bing.com and then I got Amazon.com and it is still there. I have just done as suggested re keyword url so I will log out of firefox and log back in and see what happens. James.
OK did that. Still got mr amazon sitting in the little search bar I never use. Also no sign of amazon in about config?
