IE9 will not display HTML5 Videos.

Hi Folks, I have the latest IE9 and the latest Adobe Flash Player, but I can not get HTML5 Videos to play. If I use Google Chrome they work fine, but I don't really want to use Google Chrome as IE9 is my prefered browser. I searched on the web for solutions to this problem, upto now nothing has worked. The Videos are blacked out with the message "you need the latest IE9 or Flash Player to view this file", I even got the message "You need the correct version of Flash Player to view this" on a news page picture. Every time I get this message I click on the "Get it here" and re download the same one I've downloaded 7 times already. Hope you can shed some light on this. I'm using WIN7 Ultimate 64bit.

If this is for YouTube, it does work, just not very well. Try WebM.

Thank you for your reply, however I don't understand what you are saying.

What is WebM? Are you telling me not to use IE9? Are you saying that IE9 doesn't work very well? Because if so, I can use Google Chrome but as stated I don't want to. I do not have any trouble with YouTube as a rule.

It's a plugin. I hyperlinked it in my last post. It may help.

All sites that I go to are listed in Internet tools/Security/Trusted Sites. I do not have any other Add Blocker.

Just remembered. I read an article awhile ago that some malware/virus tools are using "Update Adobe Flash" as a way to enter a system. You may want to run a scan. As you may know, best only to download Flash from the Adobe site.

What is your antivirus ? Most in the forum recommend also running Malwarebytes.org in addition to your AV.

With that said, I doubt this is an AV issue. I actually have the same issue with IE9. Does not always display embeded vids on sports sites and some graphs on other sites. I also use Chrome as a backup.

I think IE9 only supports H.264 video format under HTML5. It should roll-back to Flash though. Click on Tools > Manage Add-ons > Tool Bars and Extension (in left pane) and see if the Active-X control for Flash is enabled.

Also, a site requesting use of Flash that you have not blocked or otherwise restricted should cause the yellow bar to appear. This bar gives you the chance to allow or deny the use of Flash for the site or all sites (bad choice). Choose "Run Add-on" if you trust the site.
